In this webinar, Dr David Pearson and Joao Ferreira discuss the production of laser bar facet optical coatings by Ion Beam Sputter Deposition. They give a brief introduction to laser technologies, including laser diodes and their applications, together with the fabrication process steps.
The webinar goes on to discuss the advantages offered by ion beam deposition technology and the resulting improvements in the performance of both AR and HR multilayer coatings on laser facets. Some details are also presented on the techniques used to control and optimise the optical layer properties during ion beam deposition.
Dr Pearson has a BSc and PhD obtained from the University of Sheffield, as well as an MBA gained from Canterbury Business School, the University of Kent in 1994. His breadth of knowledge spans across Ion Beam technologies, systems and applications, PVD, Ion Beam Deposition and Etch. He is involved in technology and process R&D for Ion Beam etch and deposition systems and his specialist areas are Ion Beam processing (etch and deposition), PVD sputtering and RF plasma sources.
João graduated in Physics from Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon and completed an MBA in general Management later at the University of Brighton, UK. He has been working in semiconductor equipment manufacturing for over 20 years. He joined Plasma Technology in 2009 as a Project Manager to manage new products’ developments. He currently leads the Ion beam product team with responsibility for the Ion beam product strategy.
